As breeders and lovers of the Canaan Dog, we have launched The Canaan Dog Preservation Project to help this wonderful and endangered breed to survive, and to thrive. To that purpose, we aim to:
offer information about the Canaan Dog to anyone interested in the breed (watch this space)
help to build a comprehensive Canaan Dog DNA database to gain insight into our Canaan Dogs‘ genetic diversity and breed-specific hereditary diseases, and advise breeders accordingly
support the introduction of fresh blood into the breed, eg by helping to organize DNA testing for desert-born dogs from Israel
offer advice to breeders of the Canaan Dog, eg on DNA testing (see above), behavioral issues and potential matings; we also calculate trial matings to see what coat colours to expect from a specific mating; all advice is given free of charge
encourage and participate in research into the Canaan Dog’s health, their behaviour, and other fields relevant to their preservation; for example, we take part in a study on the personality development of puppies and young dogs supervised by Dr. Udo Gansloßer, Germany.
If you would like to learn more about the Canaan Dog or our projects, or if you are a breeder and would like to get in touch, please write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
